Easter and the Spring Break came together this year. I was very glad to spend the vacation with the Pearson’s. Easter is the celebration of Jesus Christ’s rising from the dead after his crucifixion. It is the most sacred Christian holidays.
Easter rabbit, called Easter Bunny and colored Easter eggs are symbols of Easter. In legend, the Easter Bunny brings baskets filled with colored eggs, confectionery such as jelly beans and toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter. The creature either puts the baskets in a designated place or hides them somewhere in the house or garden for the children to find when they wake up in the morning. In addition, eggs are a common symbol of new life. They are painted with brilliant colors to represent the warmth and sunlight of spring.
The day before Easter, the parents and I hid the plastic eggs contained with candy, tiny toys or coins all over the garden-in the bushes, grass and trees. On the day of Easter, each of the three children in the family carried a basket and started the eggs hunt. After they found all the eggs, they were very excited to open the eggs and take out the stuff.
Another interesting thing in Easter is to dye the eggs. First of all, we prepared the hard-boiled eggs and made the dye. Before we dyed the eggs, we decorated them with a waxy crayon. We drew pictures or wrote our names on the eggs. I wrote the names of the Pearson families in both English and Chinese. I also wrote “Happy Easter” in Chinese. The Americans were very amazed. They called them “pictures” rather than Chinese characters. We then placed the egg in one of the cups of dye until it has reached the desired color. Finally, we used colorful paints and sticker to decorate the eggs. The eggs were really fancy and creative.
I had much fun in the long break.
