This week was the Thanksgiving Break. Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy a large meal with family or friends, give thanks to God for the harvest and express gratitude to others for what you have.
I was very happy to spend the Thanksgiving with an American family, the Pearson. They were so sweet and nice, like my families. They were also very interested in Chinese culture. I taught them to use chopsticks and speak simple Chinese. There were three kids in the family, Molly, Abby and Jack. They were cute, smart and noisy. I enjoyed the time with them very much. They were very fond of giving performance for families. We played card games, like old-maid and UNO. We also played on the Wii, a kind of video game. During the day of Thanksgiving, we had turkey, gravy, corn, stuffing, cranberries, pies, etc. Turkey is very American. The day after Thanksgiving is “black Friday”, a crazy day for shopping. Many things are on sale and people usually get up in the night to stand in a queue. On that day, the Pearson and I got up at 4 a.m. and we went to Target and Outlet Mall. There were enormous good deals. In the following day, we went to another state, Vermont, the Green Mountain State which was very beautiful. We shopped in a very unusual store called The Vermont Country Store. They had lots of things that were popular in this country 30, 40 and 50 years ago.
I had great fun during the Thanksgiving. I love the Pearson so much. When I left for school, they invited me to spend Easter with their family next year. The children said they could not wait for the Easter.
