This week was special and important. October 1st is the National Day in China. It is one of the most crucial holidays that are celebrated by all Chinese people. This year, 2009, is the sixtieth anniversary for the founding of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949. At the National Day, a small dormitory on Keuka campus was crowded with Chinese students. We watched the National Day Parade and fireworks show through the Internet together. When I was in China previously, I was most delighted at the week off during the holiday, also referred to as the “Golden Week”. Only until I live in a foreign country now, can I understand the meaning of the National Day and how closely a person is tied to his or her mother country. The nation flourishes and then the people become powerful.
After that, October 3rd is the Mid-autumn Festival, during which Chinese people get together with families and eat moon cakes. Although I am away from home this year, I am not depressed. During the mid-autumn festival, all Chinese students and our advisor, Yang celebrated the festival in the cafeteria together. While we were watching the CCTV Gala, we had delicious hot pot. At that time, I had a strong sensation of pride for my motherland and hometown. Some students even cried when we were singing the Chinese folk songs with the singers in the TV show.
My motherland, China! I love you!
