This Saturday, it was Halloween, an annual holiday celebrated on October 31 in the United States. Recently, I can see carved or painted pumpkins everywhere, a number of which have lights inside. In order for celebration, Keuka College conducts Annual Halloween Contest, in which this year eight Chinese students plus our advisor Yang performed Taijiquan, a famous Chinese martial art often practiced for health reasons. Before the competition, we made costumes ourselves. On the bare white T-shirt, we drew “Bagua” on its obverse side and traditional Chinese character” Long” on the reverse side by hand. During the day of contest, we gave an excellent performance, with the interpretation of Taiji by Yang and sweet music of “Leung & Chuk”. In the end, we won a storm of applause from the American students present who were quite amazed at the Chinese culture. Our event also won the first prize in the contest. We were so excited.
More than a show for creativity and entertainment, the contest was also a good way to demonstrate extensive and profound Chinese culture to American guys. They should learn more about China.
This week there were many other events in school, like Pumpkin Painting Contest and Halloween Party where people dressed up and danced. It was a crazy weekend.
